Art & Culture

“This trip was an incredible opportunity for creative and personal growth. The Atacama Desert is the perfect place for insight and thought - you won’t experience anything else like it!”

Through this course you’ll experience and process the amazing Atacama Desert and surrounding culture through the lens of art. During the first 4 weeks prior to the trip you’ll experiment with various introductory level approaches to multi-media art, including video, time lapse and long-exposure light photography. While in Chile, students collect data, photographs and recordings and maintain a travel log that documents their experiences and discoveries. Upon return to the U.S. students work to organize and structure their data in the creation of a final multimedia artwork that synthesizes their experiences in the field.

We'll also have the chance to meet other artists in Chile, visit art galleries, and directly engage with the rich, deep culture and history of the region and of Chile. You’ll learn as much about Andean and Chilean life, art and culture as you will about the desert landscape on this trip.

“Diving directly into another country’s culture was an experience unlike any other. I have never learned and experienced so much in such a short amount of time.”
